Why Do I Need A Sewer Camera Inspection?
Sewer Camera Inspections – Protect Your Home Investment
At Home Inspection Authority LLC, our sewer camera inspection is the most requested add-on service when clients schedule a general home inspection. The sewer lateral drain line, which runs underground between your home and the city connection, is one of the most important systems in any property—and one of the easiest to overlook.
Because a sewer camera inspection is not included in a standard home inspection, we highly recommend it for single-family homes, multifamily properties, and some townhomes. Our inspectors specialize in evaluating sewer lines only—we do not perform repairs or replacements—so you can trust our unbiased assessment. After the inspection, you’ll receive a comprehensive written report along with a full-color sewer video documenting our findings.
Why a Sewer Camera Inspection is Essential
The sewer line is buried underground, so you cannot see its condition or the type of pipe material without specialized equipment. Using high-resolution cameras, our inspectors can identify:
-
Cracked or broken pipes
-
Root intrusion from trees or vegetation
-
Pipe offsets and separations
-
Obsolete or deteriorated piping materials
Challenges with Sewer Inspections
Sewer inspections can present challenges, particularly with locating the clean-out access point. A clean-out access can be compared to the front door of a home (entry point) we need a way into the pipe to be able to inspect it. In some homes, the clean-out may be buried under soil, hidden by landscaping, or blocked by storage. If you’re buying a home, we recommend asking the seller to clearly identify the clean-out location before our inspection.

Ideal Clean-out access point to enter the pipe
Some older homes may not have an accessible clean-out at all. In these cases, sewage backups could flow into toilets, showers, or tubs, causing serious damage and health concerns. If a clean-out is missing, our inspectors will point this out and advise where one should be installed.
Peace of Mind for Homebuyers
A Sewer Main Line Camera Inspection is considered outside the scope of a general home inspection but is available as an additional service for a fee. By bundling your sewer inspection with your home inspection, you’ll gain peace of mind, protect your investment, and avoid unexpected repair costs that can reach thousands of dollars.

What is Hydro-Jetting?
Using 3000-4000 pounds per square inch (psi) of water, hydro-jetting has the power to burst open the toughest blockages and at the same time scours the full diameter of the pipe cutting thru tree roots, scaling and flushing debris from sewer main line.
How do i know if i need Hydro-Jetting?
If your sewer main line inspection has revealed a root intrusion, blockage, grease build-up or old scaled cast iron pipe build-up a hydro jetting service will be recommended right away so the under ground lateral can be cleared and then re-inspected for any costly repairs that may be necessary.
Hydro-jetting is a drain cleaning service that uses high pressured water to clean debris and buildup out of waste/sewer pipes under ground between structure foundation and city connection in street. It is really effective for tough clogs or buildup around the home, sewer lines, or in commercial applications such as restaurant floor drains. Once a blockage or root intrusion is cleared with hydro-jetting service we recommend re-inspecting the sewer main line to determine if any damage may have been concealed by the roots or blockage that was cleared.
